WPO Education and Outreach
The WPO believes in enhancing the concert experience with opportunities to learn more about music, orchestras, and performance development. Pre-concert lectures enhance the audience’s understanding of our programs, pieces being played, and composers. Our annual Student Concerto Competition offers the opportunity for young musicians to be a featured soloist in a concert, helping to enhance and develop their talents. Students from a local elementary school have participated by writing program notes, contributing artwork, and performing in a choral group at one of our concerts during the season. Chamber groups play at various events throughout the city, including events at the Waltham Public Library and the Charles River Museum of Industry. We always offer the opportunity for young musicians to play in the orchestra during any rehearsal cycle for a scheduled concert. We publish concert flyers in various languages. We also have booths at local events such as Waltham Day, Waltham Italian Festa, and Watertown Faire on the Square where representatives have information, answer questions and sign up people for our e-mail list.
